Colorful Worlds

At the New Klaipėda Gallery, located in the Herkus Gallery fashion and business center (22 Herkaus Manto St.)

On Thursday, June 1, 2023, at 5:30 PM, Rimvydas Pupelis’s (MUTA) painting exhibition Colorful Worlds will open at the New Klaipėda Gallery, located in the Herkus Gallery fashion and business center (22 Herkaus Manto St.).

The artistic style of Rimvydas Pupelis (MUTA) is characterized by a postmodern neo-Cubist approach. The artist’s self-expression and creative development were strongly influenced by the avant-garde Fluxus movement, a fortuitous acquaintance with Jonas Mekas, and encounters with leading figures of Cubism in the global modern art scene.

By breaking traditional representations of reality, the artist divides planes in his paintings with sharp geometric lines. His works are dominated by geometric forms of faces and figures, redistributed in various directions, reflecting a fragmented perception of reality and the depiction of objects from multiple viewpoints simultaneously. R. Pupelis’s work is characterized by vivid colors, diverse color combinations, and expressive textural effects.

‘Painting in a Cubist manner is liberating, allowing one to move freely within the compositional space of the canvas and, most wonderfully, to feel the interplay of color and emotion,’ the painter explains in justifying his choice.”

Rimvydas Pupelis (Muta) was born in 1965 in Obeliai, Rokiškis district. He graduated from Šiauliai University in 2006. He is a member of the Lithuanian Artists’ Association. In 2015, he was granted the status of professional artist, and in 2019, his work was recognized by the Maison des Artistes in France, which confirmed his membership.

Muta’s work is appreciated not only in Lithuania but also in many European countries. The artist has held over 30 solo exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad and has participated in group exhibitions in the USA, Japan, France, Switzerland, Germany, Romania, Poland, Macedonia, Latvia, and other countries.

The artist organizes and actively participates in various art projects and has received awards for his stage design work for theatrical productions.

The exhibition will run until June 29, 2023.
